ESL Standard 1: Student will listen, speak, read, and write in English for information and understanding.
ESL Standard 4: Student will listen, speak, read, and write in English for classroom and social interaction.
ESL Standard 5: Student will demonstrate cross-cultural knowledge and understanding.

Objectives:
Student will be able to:
  • Identify and demonstrate the use of accurate past tense of regular and irregular verbs in both oral and written language.
  • Identify and accurately use terms related to planning a party in both oral and written language.
  • Enhance their word processing and computer/Internet skills by using various technologies to complete assignment.
  • Peer edit wiki pages by accurately correcting errors related to spelling, punctuation, and verb tense.

Materials:
  • Computer/Internet access
  • Wikispaces
  • Wallwisher
  • Pen/Paper

Anticipatory Set:
Students will draw a numbered piece of paper from a bag to determine the order in which they will read their paragraph about their party written last class.

Procedures:
Introduction (3 minutes)
  • Teacher welcomes student.
  • Teacher asks students to get together with their partner.
  • Students will be asked to write their name under the number written on the board.
  • Teacher will explain the objectives of the lesson.

Activity 1 (8 minutes) Party Comments and Responses
  • Students will review the Wiki pages of the parties that they attended and in their partners decide on one thing that happened at each party.
  • Students will click on the link to each party’s Wallwisher, and post their comment. [Focus-Past Tense]
  • All students will be asked to read the posts from their guests and respond to the comments posted on their own Wallwisher, with a reminder from the teacher to focus on tense, spelling, and punctuation.

Activity 2 (17 minutes) Party Reviews
  • Students will present to their class their written paragraph from the last class in the order determined in the beginning of class.
  • One person from each pair will orally read the group's party review.

Activity 3 (8 Minutes)
  • Students will discuss (in English) with their partner what they liked about one party that they "attended".
  • Teacher will ask students to write a 3-5 paragraph about what they liked about the party and why.

Closure: (2 minutes)
  • Teacher will also explain that the students who did not read in today’s class will be asked to read their reviews aloud in the next class to focus on their oral language skills.

Evaluation:
The students’ performance and participation will be monitored by the teacher, and assistance will be provided as needed. The teacher will collect the paragraphs in the next class and correct them for a grade. The teacher will review all of the pages to determine a final grade based on the rubric for the project.
